Development and Nutritive Analysis of Different Papaya Recipes Incorporated with Locally Available Herbs

Abstract:

At different time throughout the history, those who shape policy have had varying beliefs about the importance of papaya andlocally available herbs. Carica papaya belongs to caricaceae family and it is commonly known as ‘papaya’. It is used as antiinflammatory,antioxidant, diuretic, antibacterial, abortifacient, vermifuge, hypoglycemic, antifungal activity, antihelmenthicand immunomodulatory etc. Scientific evidences suggest their versatile biological function that supports its traditional use indifferent diseases. Since the beginning of human civilization, a number of medicinal plants have been used in the traditionalsystem of medicine, aiming to maintain health and to cure diseases. As plants produce a lot of antioxidants they can represent asource of novel compounds with promising antioxidant activity. The purpose of this work is to present a minireview of thepotential of spices and aromatic herbs for the development of functional foods.
