Abstract:
Student mental health has emerged as a critical concern in higher education. The present study investigates the levels of stress, anxiety, and depression among students of general degree colleges in the districts of Lakhimpur in Assam. A sample of 350 students was selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21). Statistical tools including descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis were applied. The results reveal a high prevalence of moderate to severe stress (62%), anxiety (68%), and depression (54%) among students. Academic pressure, financial constraints, and lack of counseling services were identified as key determinants. The study suggests institutional interventions and mental health support systems
