Abstract:
The rapid proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
technologies across academic institutions signals a paradigm shift in the
philosophy and practice of higher education. This paper examines AI as a
multifaceted enabler of Outcome-Based Education (OBE)-a student-centred
pedagogical framework that measures institutional success by demonstrable
graduate competencies rather than course completion. Drawing on an extensive
review of peer-reviewed literature, institutional case studies, and global
policy frameworks, this research investigates how AI-powered tools including
adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, learning analytics, automated
assessment platforms, and natural language processing align with and advance
the four pillars of OBE: clearly defined learning outcomes, outcome-driven
curriculum design, continuous assessment, and data-driven quality improvement.
The paper further explores the transformative role of AI
in academic research from literature discovery and hypothesis generation to
data analysis and scholarly writing assistance. The authors critically assess
implementation challenges including algorithmic bias, data privacy, digital
inequity, and the threat of superficial engagement with AI tools. Ethical
governance frameworks and institutional best practices are proposed to ensure
that AI augments human agency rather than supplanting it. The paper concludes
with a strategic roadmap for AI integration in OBE-aligned higher education
ecosystems.
